At Picnic, we’re building the modern supermarket – delivering groceries to millions of people across three countries. And we’re one of the only companies in the world to do it all by ourselves. From our fully automated warehouse to our delivery algorithms – it’s all built by our own people. We find it gives us more freedom when it comes to trying out new and innovative ideas!

Software Developer in the Planning Systems team
Computer scienceAstrid has studied Computing Science at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, with a focus on the mathematical foundation - the logic & algorithms. She loves the theoretical problems, and is happy that within Picnic she gets to combine it with the super practical ones! Her favorite part of her job is seeing how it impacts the trip planning everyday. From making sure that products fit together in bags to planning efficient routes to our customers, they all are technical puzzles in their core. And what is better than a good puzzle?

Lindsay Kempen
Senior Software Engineer
Computer science & Data scienceLindsay loves solving abstract problems that lead to physical results. At Picnic, her code orchestrates automated warehouses; moving kilometers of conveyor belts to get your groceries to you. Her favorite challenge was optimizing an NP-complete problem to keep your milk from smashing your bread!
Her studies (BSc Computer Science & MSc Data Science, University of Twente, cum laude) and a Google Anita Borg scholarship ignited her passion for empowering women in tech. That led her to taking on leadership roles, founding an escape room to promote CS to young girls, and now mentor a female junior at Picnic — the same position she held just two years ago.
In her free time she loves bouldering; another way to solve puzzles in a physical world!

Iliana Iankoulov
Tech Lead
Master Data and Analytics
She tackles data puzzles at Picnic, Europe’s fastest-growing online supermarket. Joining as the company’s first Data Engineer in 2015, she now leads tech teams responsible for data governance, master data, and business intelligence. As a leader of leaders, she thrives on matching people to the right challenges and unlocking their potential. Daily, she champions data quality and system reliability while empowering analysts with tools for data-driven decisions.
Iliana earned her M.Sc. in Business Information Technology (Cum Laude) from the University of Twente and her B.Sc. in Computing and Business (First-Class Honours) from Brock University in Canada. During her studies, she fell in love with databases — a passion that evolved into an exciting and fulfilling career. Beyond data, she’s an avid hiker and traveler who finds balance through yoga
