How you can prepare for a successful Coffee & Career?
01. Do your homework
Check the list of Participating Sponsors above. Which companies spark your interest? Visit their websites and see what projects they are working on.
Pro Tip: Instead of asking "What does your company do?", you can ask, "I saw you're working on [Project X], how does your team contribute to that?"
02. Update your "Menu" (CV & LinkedIn)
Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date. While we encourage digital connections, bringing a few printed copies of your CV is a great way to leave a tangible reminder with recruiters at the Career Market.
Action: Have your unique LinkedIn QR code ready on your phone for quick connecting.
03. Prepare your introduction
You will be meeting many new people. Prepare a short, casual introduction (your "elevator pitch") so you don't freeze up.
The Formula: Name + What you study + What you are looking for.
Example: "Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm a Masters student in Civil Engineering, and I'm currently looking for a thesis topic related to sustainability."
04. Have a goal for your 1-on-1s
If you sign up for a mentor chat, remember that 15 minutes goes by fast. Come with a clear intention.
Ask yourself: Do I want feedback on my CV? Do I want to know about their specific job role? Or do I need advice on choosing a specialization?
05. Think beyond the mug
Networking is about building long-term relationships, not just collecting business cards. If you have a great conversation with a mentor or recruiter, ask to connect on LinkedIn right then and there.
The Follow-Up: A simple message sent the next day (e.g., "Hi [Name], thanks for the coffee chat! I really appreciated your advice on...") sets you apart from the crowd and keeps the door open for future opportunities.
06. Come with an open mind
This is a safe space to learn. You don't need to have your entire 10-year plan figured out. It is okay to say, "I'm not sure what I want to do yet."
The rolemodels are there to help you figure it out.
